Tioga

Founded in 1881, Tioga is situated in northern Texas on the joint track of T. and P. and M.K.T. railroads. There are several excellent facilities in the area for fishing, hunting and other forms of outdoor recreation in the area. In 1883, water was scarce, and a man cleaned out an old well to keep water on hand. It was making people ill when drank, so they stopped consumption. However, they started noticing that his water appeared to speed up the healing process after laborers washed their cut or burned hands in the well. Mineral Wells of Tioga was founded and sold “Mineral Water” near and far. They eventually opened branches in St. Louis and New York. Tioga is an Indian name (from a tribe originating in New York, N.Y.) and means “swift current” or “rushing waters”
