Whitesboro is in western Grayson County. U.S. Route 82 passes through the north side of the city, and U.S. Route 377 passes through the east side. US 82 leads east 17 miles to Sherman, the county seat, and west 13 miles to Gainesville, while US 377 leads north 15 miles to the Oklahoma border on the Red River and south 41 miles to Denton. The population was 3,793 at the 2010 census. Whitesboro is named for its founder, Ambrose B. White. Close to everything but far away to still be in the country. Sandy loam soil is highly sought-after ground in the equine community. Downtown Whitesboro offers boutiques, shops, and a restaurant. Just outside of the square are fast food restaurants and retail stores as well as a Grocery.
